In December 2021, my nephews tried to cheer me up during a difficult time with Covid and personal challenges by searching for a dog at the SPCA. Disappointed by the lack of small dogs, we showed interest in “Pumpkin,” but he was already spoken for.
I put off the search until mid-January. On returning to the SPCA with my mum, we still couldn’t find a small dog. Frustrated, I returned the next day early and started looking with a woman also searching for a dog. I found a Chihuahua named Chuck, and mentioned his brother to the woman, who adopted him. I adopted Chuck and was eager to bring him home after he was neutered.
When I returned that Friday, ready to take Chuck home, I was devastated to learn he had severe heart problems. Determined to find a dog, I rushed through the shelter and discovered a Whippet/Terrier mix. I quickly completed the paperwork and took him home, snapping our first selfie together on the way to the car. To my surprise, my nephew recognized him as “Pumpkin,” the dog we had almost adopted earlier.
It turns out Pumpkin had been adopted and returned after his new owner passed away and the son put him on the street, and we reunited at the shelter. Jack, as he’s now known, loves riding in the car and has become my real estate companion. His journey mirrors mine in real estate—I don’t just sell houses; I change lives by helping clients find their homes or move on from them. I heard a woman say…
To Jackie… You will be okay. I looked at her and said… Nah. He is as good as he is going to get. Hahah poor Jackie
